The Awesome Malapascua Adventure
It was almost like we we were in the Reality TV series Survivor. The participants: Michelle, Bekah, Kuya Mike, Ced, and me. No rented rooms, no resort, no electricity, Just a dilapidated shack whith holes on its ceiling, sleeping bags, a portable stove, lighters, rhum and coke, Beka’s and Mich’s whole kitchen in a pail, noodles, oats, veggies of all sorts, condiments and spices, even popcorn. We all met at Mich’s place in Mactan so we could leave together.
Mactan to Maya
Departure from Mactan: 4AM
Travel time: ~ 4 hours
Mode of Transportation: Hitch a ride with Joey and Anne (who were scuba diving in Malapascua)
Payment: None. Free. Hurhurhur.
Maya to Malapascua Island:
Travel time: ~ 45 minutes
Mode of Transportation: Ferry Ride
Payment: Php40.00 per person
When we got to Malapascua, Joey and Anne stayed on the main beach. The five of us went to the other side of the island where there’s no resort, just local houses, fishermen’s boats and a whole stretch of awesome beach. We just paid Php20.00 per person for the motorcycle ride that would take us to the other side of the island.
The only not so nice thing about the whole trip was the sun kept hiding behind the clouds! But that never dampened our spirits and in fact, the rain added adventure factor to the whole thing because we had no real shelter! Just a dilapidated shack with holes on the ceiling! It was pitch black at 7PM because like I said, no electricity. We cooked on Ced’s portable butane stove and 3 stones that forms a triangle and used dead, dry leaves to make fire. We cooked noodles, vegetebale stew, pasta, oats, hell even popcorn (yummiest popcorn by the way.)Who said you need lots of monies to get on an adventure?
It was one of the best trip I’ve ever had. Just amazing.
